 A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME

Hi, my name is Michael John Murphy (just Mike or Murph for short) and I am the founder and creative director of Born by the Sea. For the past 20 years, I've been a lifestyle/commercial photographer who specializes in photographing people and places. During this time I've been commuting back and forth to New York City and international airports to shoot for clients including Ralph Lauren, Cadillac, Prada, L'Oreal and many more.  I've had celebrity portraits published in Vanity Fair, Vogue and Conde Nast  publications worldwide. As my career grew and changed, so did my personal life.  I became a husband to my wonderful wife Kelly, a local nurse and incredible mother to our 4 year old son, Aidan and our 2 year old Maggie Mae.   (And how could I leave out our 4-legged friends: PePeoPe, and Daisy Mae....)

Back when 2020 began, I don't think any of us could imagine what that year had in store for us.  When the world shut down, I took the time to reevaluate the important things in my life and started to shift my priorities and expectations.  At the time, Born by the Sea, was a photo book I was laying out consisting of a collection of portraits and places from my travels abroad over the past 2 decades. However, I decided to borrow the title and turn it into a business which felt much more like “home”. I formed Born by the Sea to focus all of my time on family and my hometown.  It’s everything that means the most to me and now I wake up every morning with one clear mission, which is telling the "story of you."
